Artist Statement

I enjoy making art with various mediums to reflect feelings of nostalgia. By using papers, clay, wood, metals and all types of found objects, I can recreate stories I have heard passed down through generations. I am proud of my Southern roots and try to present that in my art. The preservation of such processes as quilting, bookmaking, woodworking, and the like, are important to me and I try to maintain those feelings in each work of art that I create.
With inspiration from my past, I am creating historical records of my life and the area of Alabama in which I reside. By doing so, I hope to preserve methods of creating objects by hand and not relying on modern machinery for every step of the process. I feel it is important to maintain the processes used by previous generations specifically in the South and like to reflect that in my work.
